What We Do In The Shadows

In a post-pandemic world, we are longing for stimulation, What we do in the shadows is a catalyst to make us reflect, ponder, and think about how we should live our lives.
Hidden in plain sight at Interiors Australia, What we do in the shadows enables you to have a visual and aural experience that is in stark contrast to the other installations around you. Move within the space, to hear diverse soundscapes that complement the visual display above.

Cultivated

Almost a year after the launch of Cult’s sustainably program, Cultivated returns to the spotlight with a dedicated installation at Interiors Australia + DENFAIR 2022. Through an exhibition of new projects and collaborations, Cultivated invites you to consider new possibilities for end-of-life furniture, whilst unveiling thought-provoking innovations in its waste stream strategies.

Panic Room

Brought to you by Electrolight, Newmat & Litesource

Feeling overwhelmed from the barrage of stalls? Inbox filling up with emails? The sheer volume of information we are expected to digest every day is forever increasing – and the attention we give to direct & live communication, collaboration and our conscious self is continually diminishing.
The ‘Panic Room’ is not a trade fair stall, it’s a space created for guests to escape and relax.

Artichoke Lounge by Markian

They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but what about a magazine?
The Artichoke cover showcases exactly what’s beneath its surface. Formulaic in nature, a hero image and its corresponding texture is wrapped in a colour-saturated cover, accented with the iconic Artichoke lettering. This blueprint is what makes Artichoke so distinctive and enticing. Drawing upon the elements of the Artichoke cover – hue, texture, and form – and translating them into a physical space has been the inspiration for the Markian x Artichoke Lounge. Markian’s collaborated with some of Australia’s biggest suppliers, Dulux, Marblo, Forbo and Laminex, to showcase and reflect the best Australia has to offer in interior design.

KBDi Kitchen Design Competition

Tutti Frutti by TK Design

Winner of the KBDi Kitchen Competition, Tania Kloester will build a kitchen onsite, in one day. Step back in time, to the 1950s. This design emulates happy days at a milk bar. Be drawn to an assortment of pastel tones in ForestOne’s range, including ‘Apricot Nude’ and ‘Saffron Yellow’. To top it off, Austaron’s acrylic terrazzo finish ‘Confection’ was the obvious choice for table top and splashback.

Main Stage by Arthur Koutoulas

The main stage hosts a stellar Speaker Series program, and deserves a spectacular design experience to learn in. The immersive foam installation is designed by Arthur Koutoulas and the material is supplied by Joyce Foam and carpet is by EC Carpets. The design aims to explore the dissolving distinctions between sculpture and furniture.

Based on the idea of using a singular form that transcends scale and function, and questions the idea of furniture as architecture and architecture as furniture, is what is at the core of this activation.

Cult Lounge

Designed for meeting, reflection and conversation, Cult’s curated lounge area at Interiors Australia + DENFAIR 2022 will be the launch pad for a new modular sofa system designed by Adam Goodrum. Based on a familiar favourite in the nau collection, Goodrum’s sofa introduces new possibilities for commercial lounging, whilst offering a place of respite for the busy event-goers itinerary.

Acknowledging Country

Interiors Australia + DENFAIR acknowledge the Woiwurrung and Wurundjeri peoples of the Kulin Nation, recognising the first peoples of this land, the traditional & contemporary custodians, and their ongoing connection with the lands, skies & seas. Paying respects to their Elder’s, who have cared for Country for tens of thousands of years and their descendants who will continue to care for Country long into the future. The Acknowledging Country installation will be making space for local Aboriginal artists and collaborators to Welcome to Country attendees of the exhibition.
